AeroMongolia
has cancelled all flights from Ulaanbaatar to Chon-ju, Korea
for the month of October for lack of permission from the Korean Civil Aviation Bureau,
said a company official Tuesday.
The flights, which AeroMongolia has been flying twice a week to Chon-ju prior to this month, did not receive permission to continue the flights throughout October. “The Korean Civil Aviation Bureau has not given any response on AeroMongolia’s request for making flights during the month of October,” said B. Amartuvshin, flight industry officer for AeroMongolia. “We are discussing about the passengers who booked tickets on our flights in October are to be transferred to different airline companies’ flights.” An air transport agreement which is signed between Mongolia and Korea states MIAT from Mongolia and Korean Air from South Korea are the only officially-appointed and authorized airline companies that make flights on the UB-Seoul route, as the two countries have equal rights. “AeroMongolia was making continuous charter flights to Korea. The Korean side requested to have one more very big airline, Asean Airlines, make flights to Mongolia. But the Mongolian Ministry declined to accept the Korean request,” said M. Erdenebatmunkh, head of security control at the flights security supervision department. "We can not support AeroMongolia for its application to have charter flights to Korea when another big Korean airline, Asean Airlines company requested to have charter fligths to Mongolia" said S. Batmunkh, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority told MonInfo Tuesday. "We considered that it would badly influence the market, like a monopoly, if Mongolia receives flights from other Korean airlines as well,” Batmunkh said. “This decision was made for our county’s interest, not a company’s.” Amartuvshin said AeroMongolia would refund passengers who wish to receive their money back. |
