On December 1, a fire broke out on freight train # 700716 while it was loading goods at the 6th transferring path in the Mongolian border town of Zamiin-Uud, according to a statement made by officials from Ulaanbaatar Railway headquarters on Monday.

Parts of the train’s roof and half of its goods burnt while it was in the fence of the loading, unloading and transferring facility.

The fire was extinguished by the Zamiin-Uud fire station and no injuries or deaths were reported.

“This train had a permission to load clothing insulation and cellophane materials, but in fact, there were 40-50 boxes of Christmas related toys, fireworks and flares under those materials which violated railway safety legislation. The first analysis released by officials says the cause of the fire was because the loaders and employees were playing with the flares,” said L. Davaakhuu, a press representative from Emergency Authority.

The damage is more than MNT 7 million, according to preliminary analysis made by the Zamiin-Uud Emergency Authority.
