Municipal administrations of Sapporo and Kawasaki, Japan are going to present 20 garbage trucks to the city of Ulaanbaatar, an official at the Office of City Equipment informed MonInfo Wednesday.

The trucks have capacities of 2.5- 9 tonnes and are equipped with loading and crushing equipments. “Nissan”, “Isuzu”, and, ”Hino” trucks will be a big support for the city’s development and a solution for the garbage problem which occurs every year, according to his statement.

G. Ganzul, a resident in Sukhbaatar district’s 10th khoroo said, “There is no garbage site near our apartment. So we just throw the garbage on other garbage piles which are collected in the street.”

“Usually the garbage in the street is piled up and scattered all around. Sometimes vagrants burn them and there is smoke everywhere,” she said.

A Sukhbaatar district official also said that a lack of adequate garbage collectors is contributing to the city’s issues.

“There are 33- 34 apartments in the 10th khoroo, but no garbage site. So the residents go to the 9th khoroo or ‘100 ail’ in order to throw their garbage away. Those trashes are being loaded into a truck once a day. 3 garbage men in our khoroo get paid only MNT 2000 by each user monthly,” said Ya. Ayursed, head of the 10th khoroo.

“These problems will be solved if we can have our own garbage truck,” he added.

After receiving 20 trucks from Japan, the Office of City Equipment is planning to buy 30 trucks with 9 tonnes of loading capacity from China.

“We will receive the granted trucks at the end of this week, but we don’t want to give any more information for now,” said Ts. Bold, the head of the Office of City Equipment.
