After listening to a presentation by the standing
committee on economics only 44 members of parliament quickly discussed and
voted on appointing A. Batsukh as the new Mongol Bank president.
In a nearly partisan vote, 30 of the 44 members present voted in favor of Batuskh, with only one MPRP member joining independents and DP members in voting against Batsukh. “A. Batsukh, the current first deputy governor of the Mongol Bank, was confirmed as the next president in a parliamentary vote, where 68.2 percent members were in favor,” said J. Nergui, Press spokesman of the Parliament. “T. Ochirkhuu, a member of Standing Committee on Economics read and introduced the conclusion of the committee as he started introducing A. Batsukh’s biography at the beginning of discussion and voting.” Standing Committee on Economics had held a meeting on Tuesday evening on the issue of appointing A. Batsukh who was nominated for Mongol Bank president and proposed by Ts. Nyamdorj, Parliament speaker. However the standing committee split a vote where six of the 12 committee members rejected appointing him at the committee meeting. Outgoing president O. Chuluunbat, a major backer of Mongolia introducing sovereign bonds on the international market, had no comment on whether the issue would be more or less endorsed with a new president coming into office. On Wednesday, L. Gansukh, Head of DP faction in Parliament expressed the party’s members position of not supporting A. Batsukh’s appointment on the session, reflected in the partisan vote. |
