During a meeting of the Standing Committee on Economics members of the group voted for whether to appoint a new president of the Mongol Bank of Mongolia. Six members out of 12 attending the meeting rejected appointing A. Batsukh, current Vice President, as the next President.

Coinciding with parliamentary discussions on the fundamental direction of monetary policy for the government in 2007, O. Chuluunbat, the current President, made an introduction about the nation’s monetary situation and a draft on next year’s monetary policy.

E.  Bat-Uul, DP member in Parliament said, “It is true that DP members in parliament will not vote for appointing A. Batsukh as Mongol bank President. We will also not vote for re-appointing O. Chuluunbat.”

“We need to make them accountable for a number of reasons, for instance: the management of the Mongol Bank has not sufficiently fulfilled their duties in controlling Savings and Credit Unions’ activities.”

However MPRP members confirmed that Batsukh was their choice for the next six year term of the Mongol Bank President.

“Since the MPRP faction in parliament nominated Batsukh, we will all vote for his appointment,” D. Lundeejantsan, an MPRP member of parliament said Wednesday.

Further discussion on a new president and a possible vote are expected for Thursday.

“The parliament session schedule is projected to discuss the Mongol Bank’s new president’s appointment on Thursday’s 10 o’clock session of Parliament,” said an officer at the Parliament office legal division.

“L. Gantumur, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economics will introduce the conclusion of the meeting of the committee regarding A. Batsukh as the new Mongol Bank President at the beginning of discussion and voting.”
