Following nearly two days of discussions and arguing during Parliamentary sessions, the Mongolian parliament voted to keep the National Coalition Government, spoiling Democratic Party attempts to resign the nine month old cabinet of Prime Minister M. Enkhbold.

In a strictly partisan vote only 22 of the 68 MPs present, all members of the DP, voted to resign the government, with the remaining 46 denying the motion.

Before the vote DP members continued to blame ministers and MPRP officials of having too many conflicts of interests in their work and lacking accountability.

“It is the duty of the government which is formed by parliamentarians that they must bare responsibility in front parliament,” E. Bat-Uul, DP member of parliament, said in the discussions Thursday.

“The DP is the opposition in parliament and is performing its duty to be an opposition.”

MPRP members in parliament though focused on their “successes,” of lowering taxes while raising salaries and pensions.

DP members in Parliament expressed their comments on reasons why they are in position to resign the Government such as Z. Enkhbold, DP member in Parliament said, “There is a list of 10 reasons on my desk that it is correct to resign the Government.”

“There was no action taken when money totaling more than MNT 100 million went into the customs official’s pockets. There was also no action taken when there are about 10,000 victims with losses of MNT 66 billion,” he said.

However, following the vote Speaker of Parliament Ts. Nyamdorj didn’t deny that some cabinet members may have acted with different intentions.

“We hope that the cabinet members will correct their mistakes and will not be affected by their conflicts of interests,” Nyamdorj said during the closing statement of the session.
