| Parliament to Discuss Monetary Policy for 2007 |

Government
discussions on September 27, concerning the main direction to pursue in 2007 in monetary policy resulted in a draft, submitted to the Speaker of
Parliament on September 29, 2006, the press
office of the Government of Mongolia said today.
“In accordance with the sequence of issues to be discussed during the fall session indicated on the decree of the Speaker of Parliament, the draft decree on the main direction to pursue in 2007 from the Government regarding monetary policies is planned to be discussed next week,” the press officer of Parliament told MonInfo Wednesday. The protocol of the Government Cabinet meeting’s main direction to pursue in 2007 regarding monetary policy was defined within the following areas: Deepening the financial intermediation in the banking sector and to lengthen the negotiation period of financial products; to hold inflation at 6 percent per year which will be expressed by consumption price index; to develop the second market of mortgage and hypotecha and the 40,000 households program is to be taken into account; issues to decrease interest at commercial banks and to sell bonds on international markets. The government said economic growth has reached 7.5 percent in 2006 and GDP per person is US $950.0, which has increased 28.7 percent compared to 2005. Mongolia’s service sector contributed 4.2 percent of growth, while the agricultural and industrial sectors supplied the remaining 3.3 percent of Mongolia’s total 7.5 percent economic growth. |
