The Mongolian Intelligence Agency has issued a warning to
the City Professional Inspections Office (PIO) regarding eggs that were
supplied from the Hebei province of China,
which are harmful to people’s health, the PIO said Wednesday.

”In 2004,
only 5 cases of HIV infection were recorded throughout the country, but this
number increased up to 25 and 4 people died by November of this year,” A.
Otgonbold, vice minister of health announced Friday at a conference marking

An outbreak of neonatal infection in maternity hospital # 2
was nosocomial, caused by a breach in routine checks against infection, said M.
Tsolmon, doctor and head of the reconnaissance and prevention group of the Center
for nosocomial infections, according to tests run by the inspectors.

Scientists
from the United States Geological Survey, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)

preliminary testing for bird flu conducted during August at more than ten sites
in northeast Mongolia have not found any positive cases of the H5N1 virus.

Four cattle from three herder
families died on July 18 in the Mukhar Turuu area of Bayan-Uul bagh,
Battsengel soum, Arkhangai province. One more cow died four days later in
the same place. Local veterinary officials confirmed on July 24 that those
cattle died from anthrax, a highly infectious animal disease that can be
transmitted to people.

This week a group of international scientists will resume testing for the H5N1 strain of avian influenza while thousands of migratory birds arrive in Mongolia for the summer months. Previous outbreaks in Mongolia have differed from those in other areas, presenting new information,
as well as causes for concern.
